Political Action in SPSEA
Being as though this is the most important pillar of SPSEA, we are sure to provide members with up to date information about the laws being passed in education. We also are sure to tell our members that education is all about politics and that they should be very aware of what is happening politically in our profession as future educators!
Spring 2016 SPSEA Political Action
On Febuary 25th, from 11:00am to 12:30pm, Dr. Christopher Clayton came to California University to discuss the Every Student Succeeds Act that was recently put into place over the No Child Left Behind Act. It was a presentation full of information that brought many teacher canidates together to see the political action that took place. Attendees were involved in discussions pertaining to the new law. This new reauthorization will impact all teachers in the future and was a very important seminar that our members as well other students and professors in the education department attended!
At our March 24th meeting, members were given information on how to see which presidental candidate they side with. Members were given slips of paper with the website: www.isidewith.com . On this website is a quiz that asks questions about a person's lifestyle and the needs they have. It also asks about issues and how the person stands on these issues. At the end of the quiz, it tells the percentage of how much you side with each of the presidental candidates. We made our members very aware of how each presidental canidate may affect our careers in the future!
On Thursday, March 24th, 2016 Dr. Michelle Torregano of the Childhood Education Department came to our meeting to discuss with members how to intregrate politics into the classroom. Dr. Torregano gave very informative methods and practices that she has used and what she has learned in her many experiences through her teaching. SPSEA was honored to have her speak at our meeting!
